Program or Intervention Summary

Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention (TSL) is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) flagship suicide prevention education program that covers the scope of this leading cause of death, what research has found related to warning signs, risk and protective factors for suicide, and strategies that can help save lives.

TSL is a 60-minute PowerPoint presentation that can be delivered by trained presenters virtually or in-person to audiences over the age of 18. The presentation can be customized with the use of additional “plug in slides” and “plug in videos” for specific audiences, such as rural communities, college students, healthcare workers, indigenous communities, service members, or LGBTQ+ communities. Participants will leave the presentation equipped with a deeper understanding of suicide as a complex health issue, ready to have a conversation with someone they are concerned about and know how to seek and offer support and crisis resources for themselves or others.

After the program, all participants are invited to complete a survey to assess program experience and effectiveness.
